The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to formally denounce comments made by Congress MLA Vijay Wadettiwar. The controversy stems from Wadettiwar’s alleged approval of a violent incident targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, mirroring an attack on former US President Donald Trump.
In a video, Wadettiwar is heard suggesting that international escalation under Trump merited such repercussions, inferring analogous sentiments concerning India's current administration. This incensed BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla, who decried the Congress for harboring a mindset he considered "dangerous and irresponsible."
Further fanning the flames of political discord, remarks by Wadettiwar were seen as reflecting an endorsement of violence, prompting demands for apologies and criticisms of the Congress's rhetoric towards the Prime Minister. BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari went as far as labeling Congress a "front of the tukde-tukde gang," exacerbating the standoff.
