Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday proposed developing the Assembly premises on the lines of the Parliament in Delhi, along with the construction of a central hall. He held a meeting with Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy, and officials on the civil works to be taken up in the legislature premises. The CM recommended completing the Central Hall by the next session, a press release said. He suggested setting up a club for members in the public garden within the legislature premises, along with a walking track and sports facilities. He stressed that the works should be carried out without causing any damage to the heritage structures in the premises, while also strengthening security in the Assembly complex. The legislature premises include a renovated Nizam-era old Assembly hall, which houses the Legislative Council. The heritage building, originally the Town Hall during the Nizam rule, housed the Legislative Assembly in undivided Andhra Pradesh until the mid-1980s. A new building was constructed behind the heritage structure to accommodate all 294 MLAs of undivided Andhra Pradesh, where the Assembly subsequently functioned. The Telangana Legislative Assembly functions in the newer building constructed in the 1980s.
