Rajasthan Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully on Wednesday attacked the BJP-led state government, alleging a breakdown of governance and accusing it of failing to address public grievances. He alleged that the administration was functioning under ''pressure from Delhi'' and prioritising select individuals over the general public. In a statement, Jully claimed that even ruling party workers were dissatisfied with the functioning of the government. ''People are not getting their work done, and there is no effective grievance redressal. Even BJP workers are admitting this, and the chief minister himself has acknowledged the situation, which reflects the government's failure,'' he said. Questioning the delay in holding local body elections, Jully said the government was ''avoiding polls out of fear of defeat''. ''Not conducting municipal and panchayati raj elections is an insult to democracy. The government is hesitant to face the public as dissatisfaction is widespread,'' he said. The Congress leader also criticised the alleged behaviour of state BJP president Madan Rathore towards women at a recent public event, terming it ''shameful and unacceptable''. On Tuesday, when Rathore reached Amar Jawan Jyoti here, he allegedly got upset seeing women BJP workers standing too close with torches and instructed them to maintain a 10-foot distance. When they failed to comply, he reacted angrily, saying ''they don't understand'', and reiterated the instruction even after being told cameras were on. ''Such incidents expose the double standards of the BJP, which claims to stand for women's respect,'' Jully said. There was no immediate response from the BJP to the allegations.
