Mamata Banerjee, leader of the Trinamool Congress, took bold action Thursday by visiting the Sakhawat Memorial School in South Kolkata amid suspicions of electoral malpractice. The institution serves as the counting center for the Bhabanipur assembly segment, housing the electronic voting machines (EVMs) used in the April 29 polls.
Despite facing a deluge, Banerjee arrived and remained stationed at the venue, joined by Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim. However, Hakim was unable to meet her, as she had already entered the strong room alongside her election agent to assess the situation.
The visit coincided with protests from TMC candidates Kunal Ghosh and Shashi Panja at another location, alleging irregularities. Banerjee has issued a call for TMC members to maintain constant vigilance over the EVMs, citing concerns of potential tampering by the BJP before the May 4th count.
