The Congress party has launched a scathing attack on the BJP following a significant hike in the price of commercial LPG cylinders. The opposition accused the ruling party of utilizing election tactics that show a superficial concern for public suffering before abandoning citizens to cope on their own.
Congress general secretary K C Venugopal voiced strong criticism, highlighting the Rs 993 increase per 19-kg cylinder as a heavy burden on small food businesses and eateries. The move came right after elections concluded, hinting at the BJP's shortsighted policies, according to Venugopal.
The opposition pointed out that, since the Iran war's onset three months ago, the government has failed to develop a strategy to protect regular Indians from rising international energy prices. The hike marks the third consecutive monthly increase amidst disruptive West Asian conflicts, driving global oil prices up by 50%.
