Former President Jair Bolsonaro Set for Shoulder Surgery Amidst House Arrest
Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is heading for shoulder surgery to alleviate chronic pain limiting his mobility. Currently under humanitarian house arrest due to health issues, Bolsonaro was convicted last year of plotting a coup after losing the 2022 election to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro departed from his residence in Brasília early Friday morning, en route to a hospital for shoulder surgery. This procedure is intended to relieve chronic pain and mobility restrictions in his right shoulder, according to a social media statement by his wife, Michelle Bolsonaro.
Bolsonaro is currently under a 90-day humanitarian house arrest, sanctioned for medical reasons, while also grappling with other health concerns. His arrest follows his conviction last year for allegedly plotting a coup after narrowly losing the 2022 presidential election to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
