In a scathing critique, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari on Saturday lambasted Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann amid allegations that Mann was inebriated during state Legislative Assembly proceedings. Tiwari asserted that such behavior mars the image of all politicians and compromises democracy, urging Mann to uphold democratic decorum in the House.
Tiwari recounted past instances, including Mann's removal from a flight over alleged intoxication, that have embarrassed the Chief Minister's own party. Accusations of breaching Parliament security for a photoshoot further tarnish Mann's reputation, Tiwari stated, urging the CM to rectify his conduct to maintain political dignity.
The criticism arises amidst significant discord in the Punjab Assembly. Opposition Congress members have clamored for Mann to undergo an alcohol test, alleging he appeared 'drunk' in the Assembly, sparking a fiery exchange of accusations between Congress and AAP, further inflaming the session.
Leader of the Opposition, Partap Singh Bajwa, backed the calls for a dope test, questioning the purpose of assembly meetings under Mann's alleged condition. Bajwa demanded comprehensive testing for all assembly members. Countering the allegations, Mann simply dismissed them, questioning the validity of such tests.
