The Supreme Court delivered a significant ruling on Saturday, upholding the Election Commission's contentious circular regarding the deployment of central government personnel for supervising the vote-counting process in West Bengal.
The BJP hailed this decision as yet another setback for Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress (TMC), who had approached the apex court challenging the exclusion of state government employees from these crucial roles. BJP leader Amit Malviya expressed that the court's refusal to entertain TMC's plea sent a clear message against attempts to undermine the integrity of the counting process.
However, the TMC argued that the court's directions validated their stance. They highlighted that the Supreme Court directed a fair interpretation, ensuring both central and state government employees are included, thus aiming for a transparent counting process. The poll counting, involving a blend of central and state personnel, is scheduled for May 4.
