ECI Orders Repoll in Falta Amid High Voter Turnout and Alleged Intimidation

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday declared a repoll across all 285 polling stations in Falta assembly constituency, scheduled for May 21, due to severe electoral violations and disruption reported on April 29. The recounting of votes will occur on May 24.

Fresh polls in all affected stations, including auxiliary ones, will run from 7 AM to 6 PM. The BJP leader had called for an immediate repoll, particularly citing issues in booth 189, while locals in South 24 Parganas staged protests against the alleged intimidation by Trinamool Congress (TMC) cadres.

Amid the tension, accusations of threats and targeting by TMC despite voter support surfaced. Following BJP allegations that voters were inhibited, the repoll efforts correspond with high participation predictions. Most exit polls suggest a significant political shift might occur, with potential BJP dominance in the region.
