Slovakia's Fico Joins Select Global Leaders at Moscow's Scaled-Back Victory Parade
Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico will attend a reduced-scale Victory Day parade in Moscow, becoming the most pro-Russian European Union leader after Viktor Orban's election loss in Hungary. Despite EU energy sanctions, Slovakia maintains Russian gas supplies. The parade, observing the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany, will be low-key due to Ukrainian threats.

Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico will be one of the few global leaders attending a downsized Victory Day parade in Moscow this month, a notable gathering amidst rising tensions.
Despite the European Union's energy sanctions, Slovakia and Hungary continue to uphold their Russian gas supply agreements. Fico's visit to Moscow in 2024, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, underscores his pro-Russian stance, a position reinforced after Hungary's recent political shift.
The commemorative parade, marking the Soviet Union's triumph over Nazi Germany, will see fewer displays this year due to potential Ukrainian threats. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko will also attend the May 9 event.
