G Sudhakaran, a former CPI(M) leader, clinched victory from the Ambalapuzha constituency as an Independent backed by the UDF, defeating his former party rival. His win contributed to UDF's significant success in the Kerala Assembly elections. This development followed his public departure from CPI(M) and criticism of its leadership.

G Sudhakaran, once a stalwart of the CPI(M), marked a significant political shift by securing a win as a UDF-backed Independent in Ambalapuzha, with a margin of 27,935 votes.

This victory, viewed as a fallout of Sudhakaran's public departure from his party and critique of its leadership, was seen as a contributing factor in the UDF's sweeping mandate across Kerala.

The Congress-led alliance captured nearly 100 seats, vanquishing the incumbent CPI(M)-led LDF, which was aiming for a third consecutive term. Among these victories, Sunny Joseph's retention of the Peravoor constituency stood out, adding to the political drama.
