Former CPI(M) leader G Sudhakaran, who recently won an Assembly seat as a UDF-backed Independent, has openly criticized Left leaders. He accused them of using his late brother Bhuvaneswaran's status as a martyr to target him during the election.
Bhuvaneswaran, a member of the SFI, was killed in a campus violence incident at NSS College, Pandalam, in 1977. Sudhakaran paid tribute to his brother at the martyr's memorial on Wednesday, sparking allegations of betrayal from local CPI(M) leaders, who claimed he was breaching party loyalty.
Sudhakaran, however, contends that the party misused Bhuvaneswaran's name in their campaign, which resulted in a loss of support. He emphasized that the family, not the CPI(M), established the memorial. Sudhakaran concluded without seeking a stance on the chief ministerial candidate race, attributing this choice to the Congress leadership.
