Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday congratulated Suvendu Adhikari, who took oath as West Bengal's first BJP chief minister in Kolkata. Adityanath said under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Adhikari's energetic leadership, the resolve of 'Sonaar Banglaa' will be fulfilled. In a post on X in Hindi, Adityanath said, ''Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to @SuvenduWB ji on being sworn in as the Chief Minister of West Bengal! I have full faith that under the guidance of respected Prime Minister @narendramodi ji and your energetic leadership, the resolve of 'Sonaar Banglaa' will be fulfilled and the state will enter the Amritkaal of cultural, spiritual and economic upliftment.'' ''I pray to Maa Kali that your tenure becomes a golden chapter in the fulfilment of the aspirations of the people of Bengal and the restoration of democratic values,'' Adityanath said. In another post on X, Adityanath said, ''Heartiest congratulations to all the honourable people who took oath as ministers in West Bengal today! We have full confidence that you will restore the glory of 'Sonaar Banglaa' by prioritising public service above all else. May your tenure be successful and beneficial to the people, with the blessings of 'Maa Kali'. Vande Mataram!'' The BJP secured 207 seats in the 294-member assembly in the recently concluded elections, ending the Trinamool Congress's 15-year rule and scripting its most significant electoral breakthrough in eastern India. Governor RN Ravi administered the oath of office and secrecy to Adhikari at the iconic Brigade Parade Grounds amid chants of ''Jai Shri Ram,'' drumbeats, and a sea of fluttering saffron flags, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the BJP's central leadership, and chief ministers of NDA-ruled states were seated on the capacious rostrum. As Modi walked onto the stage, he knelt down facing the crowd and touched his forehead to the dais with folded hands in a mark of reverence to the people's mandate, drawing loud cheers from thousands of BJP supporters packed into the historic venue. Adhikari, who won from both Bhabanipur and Nandigram constituencies and emerged as the face of the BJP's aggressive campaign, took the oath first. BJP legislators Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Kshudiram Tudu and Nisith Pramanik were also administered the oath as ministers.
