Karnataka Bids Farewell to D Sudhakar: A Leader and Philanthropist Remembered

On Monday, Karnataka Minister D Sudhakar's last rites were performed with full state honors in Chellakere, as vast crowds gathered to bid farewell. The ceremony adhered to Jain traditions, with his son Suhas lighting the pyre, following Sudhakar's death on Sunday from a lung infection.
The 66-year-old minister served as a Congress MLA from Hiriyur in Chitradurga district. Among those paying respects were Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D K Shivakumar. Sudhakar, who began his political career in 2004 and held ministerial roles supporting BJP at times, was also a dedicated philanthropist.
Despite being from a small minority community, Sudhakar enjoyed significant influence in the region. State mourning has been declared for three days, with a holiday observed in Chitradurga district as a tribute to his impactful life.
