The opposition CPI(M) and Congress in Tripura have voiced strong criticism against Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his recent austerity appeal. The leaders accuse the Centre of steering the country's economy towards a crisis through faulty policies and reckless spending.

Jitendra Chaudhury, Leader of the Opposition in the Tripura assembly, alleged that the PM's request to reduce fuel, LPG, and gold purchases highlights the deteriorating economic situation. Chaudhury argued that no economic concerns were raised until the conclusion of assembly elections in five states.

State Congress president Asish Kumar Saha echoed these sentiments, citing a prolonged economic slowdown not solely attributable to global conflicts, but also to government mismanagement. He called for the Prime Minister to honor promises made during election campaigns.
