DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin on Tuesday renewed calls to abolish Sanatana Dharma, arguing that it causes division among people. The statement came during his first speech as Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, revisiting a controversial stance he first aired in September 2023.
Stalin questioned the recent prioritization of state anthems, urging better placement for the 'Tamil Thai Vazhthu' in official ceremonies. He sharply critiqued the government for permitting such deviations and insisted on protecting Tamil traditions.
The DMK leader also spoke about the opposition's role as a counterbalance to the ruling party, welcoming the rise of young and female legislators. He promised that the opposition would remain a constructive force, continuing to uphold Dravidian principles for the welfare of the people.
