Chandra Mohan Patowary Takes Charge as Pro-tem Speaker of Assam Assembly

On Friday, Chandra Mohan Patowary was sworn in as the pro-tem Speaker of the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya. The ceremony took place at Lok Bhavan, where Patowary, a senior BJP leader, took the oath of office.

Patowary expressed his honor in a social media post, acknowledging his responsibility in leading the initial Assembly proceedings with constitutional dignity. First elected in 1985, he has represented the Dharmapur constituency six times and was recently elected from Tihu constituency.

As the pro-tem Speaker, Patowary will administer the oath to the newly elected legislators during the Assembly's first session starting May 21. This role will last until the election of a permanent Speaker, with Ranjeet Kumar Dass being the NDA's candidate for the position.
