The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted extensive searches across various locations on Saturday as part of its investigation into the murder of Chandrakant Rath, an aide to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. According to officials, the operation began late Friday night and extended into the early hours of Saturday.
Initially handled by the West Bengal Police, the high-profile case has been transferred to the CBI following a request from the state government, reflecting the significance and complexity of the investigation.
A special seven-member investigative team has been constituted under a Deputy Inspector General of Special Crime from Delhi, drawing on top investigators from various units. This team will report to the Joint Director in Kolkata as they delve into the circumstances surrounding Rath’s murder, which occurred days after the tightly contested West Bengal Assembly elections.
