The Karnataka Muslim Convention, hosted by the Federation of Karnataka Muslim Organisations, convened on Saturday to address unmet promises by the Congress regarding the Muslim community's welfare and rights. While advancements in education and welfare have been noted, core issues such as reservation, dignity, and political representation remain unresolved.
The convention's report, "Promises of Congress Government, Gaps in Delivery and Charter of Demands," highlights a stark divide between commitments made and actions taken. The report will be submitted to top state officials, underlining delays and underfunding of schemes, and the failure to repeal discriminatory laws passed by the previous BJP government.
Further, it cites discrepancies in political representation, with Muslim legislators holding a disproportionately low share of seats in the Legislative Assembly, below their population share. It calls for fairer election strategies and increased reservation for Muslims, expressing a growing dissatisfaction within the community with the current administration's unfulfilled assurances.
