In a notable departure from tradition, two ministers in Kerala's newly sworn-in cabinet opted to 'solemnly affirm' their oaths rather than invoke the name of God. Revolutionary Socialist Party leader Shibu Baby John and Communist Marxist Party leader C P John, both from left-socialist parties within the United Democratic Front (UDF), made this unique choice at their swearing-in ceremony.
The swearing-in proceedings, overseen by Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, took place at the Central Stadium with Chief Minister V D Satheesan at the helm. While the majority of ministers adhered to the traditional oath, senior Congress leader K Muraleedharan distinguished himself by taking his oath in English.
This significant political event marks the UDF's new term in office, after securing victory in 102 out of the 140 assembly seats. The ceremony concluded successfully around 11:30 am, drawing attention for the diversity in oath-taking expressions among its members.
