In a candid discussion with reporters in New Delhi, senior CPI(M) leader K K Shailaja denied any attempts to marginalize her within the party following its unexpected defeat in the Kerala Assembly elections. She assured that the CPI(M) is actively analyzing the reasons behind this rare setback.
Shailaja, who lost her seat in Peravoor, sees this collapse of the Left Democratic Front as a potential threat to communal harmony within the state. The former minister emphasized the importance of understanding the drop in seat numbers, from 99 in 2021 to 35 in 2026, and admitted that changes might be necessary.
While defending Pinarayi Vijayan as the next Leader of Opposition, Shailaja denied being sidelined, highlighting her role in the party decision-making body. She acknowledged that the election decisions were collective and recognized Peravoor as a challenging stronghold to contest.
