Key Arrest in West Bengal Political Aide's Murder

Raj Kumar Singh, a prime suspect in the murder of Chandrakant Rath, aide to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, was arrested by the CBI from Muzaffarnagar. Rath was killed shortly after the West Bengal Assembly election results were announced. A seven-member CBI team is now investigating the case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Raj Kumar Singh, a main suspect in the murder of Chandrakant Rath, the aide of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Singh, also known as Raj Singh, was apprehended in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, according to official reports.

Chandrakant Rath, who served as Adhikari's personal assistant, was fatally shot in Madhyamgram on May 6, mere days after the results of the contentious West Bengal Assembly elections were declared. The CBI has been tasked with leading the investigation, having taken over from the West Bengal Police at the state government's request.

A specialized CBI team consisting of seven members has been assembled under the direction of a Deputy Inspector General of Special Crime from Delhi. This team includes some of the agency's top investigators, who have been brought together from various units to solve the case.
