Amid rising political tensions, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia has accused the Punjab government of exploiting police powers for electoral gain ahead of upcoming local body elections. During a meeting with party workers, Majithia called this alleged misuse a grave affront to democracy.
Majithia charged a DSP with misconduct towards MLA Ganieve Kaur Majithia and other female party members, demanding immediate suspension and fair oversight from the state election commission. He alleged hurdles placed before candidates aligned with Akali Dal, accusing officials of yielding to political pressure.
Prominent figures, including Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar, joined the criticism, questioning the ruling Aam Aadmi Party's commitment to women's respect. This debate unfolds as accusations of nomination rejections and intimidation against opposition figures surface, casting doubt on the state's democratic integrity.
