Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Tuesday directed security personnel to intensify vigil in districts bordering Nepal and said the security mechanism along the international boundary must be made robust.

The CM chaired a high-level meeting here to take stock of the security situation in the districts, which are close to the India-Nepal border, and said instructions issued by the central government about ''extraordinary vigil'' should be implemented properly.

The state shares a long and porous boundary with Nepal.

''The India–Nepal border is considered sensitive. Instructions, issued by the central government related to strict and extraordinary vigil, should be implemented effectively,'' he said.

Security personnel must remain ''fully alert against suspicious movements of people, narcotics, counterfeit currency, smuggling, and other such activities along the border'', the CM said, adding that no negligence should be tolerated in this regard.

Choudhary said strict action should be taken against unethical and illegal activities occurring along the border and stressed that the ''border security mechanism must be made completely robust''.

He emphasised strengthening the surveillance system and security arrangements along the border and adopting new technologies for better monitoring.

The meeting was attended by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit, State Home Department Additional Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar Choudhary and several other senior officials of the state government.
