GFP 'only alternative' to protect Goa's interests, claims Vijai Sardesai

Goa Forward Party president Vijai Sardesai launched a statewide membership drive, claiming his outfit is the "only alternative" to safeguard Goa's rights and interests ahead of next year's assembly polls.

Goa Forward Party (GFP) president Vijai Sardesai on Monday claimed his outfit is the ''only alternative'' to safeguard the state's rights and interests, as he launched a statewide membership drive and urged youth to join the organisation.

The Goa assembly polls are due next year. In the 40-member state assembly, the Opposition GFP holds one seat- Fatorda, represented by former deputy chief minister Sardesai.

Addressing a gathering in Margao, Sardesai questioned the current state of governance and claimed that many educated youth were struggling to find jobs.

He accused the BJP-led ruling dispensation of corruption and insensitivity, while raising concerns over law and order in the coastal state.

The GFP leader also targeted the government over environmental issues and accused the government of creating divisions along religious and caste lines in a state known for communal harmony.

Asserting that GFP represents the ''only alternative'' political platform, Sardesai said the party believes in youth leadership and called for unity among Goans to protect the state's identity and interests.

Sardesai urged people to join the GFP through its membership drive starting Monday, describing it as an effort to safeguard the state's future and ''Goemkarponn'' (Goan identity).
