Jharkhand Police arrested two persons in connection with the murder of a youth during a clash over land dispute in Palamu district two days ago, a senior officer said on Monday.

The incident took place on Saturday in Rampur village under Chainpur police station limits.

Police have registered an FIR against 42 people, including 17 named accused and the alleged main culprit.

''Of the 17 named accused, we arrested two -- Golu Singh alias Nitesh Kumar Singh (28) and Brahmadev Singh (80) -- during raids in the village. Both confessed to their involvement in the incident, and a fired bullet case was recovered from them,'' Palamu SP Kapil Chaudhary said.

The SP said raids were underway at several locations to recover weapons used in the crime and arrest the remaining accused.

The clash allegedly erupted after one Rajendra Singh and his relatives damaged the boundary wall of a plot owned by Shushila Kunwar amid a dispute over the land parcel.

According to police, Singh and his associates allegedly attacked Kunwar's family members with sticks and later opened fire.

Kunwar's relative Sikandar Choudhary was killed in the firing, while four other family members sustained injuries.
