Earlier on, Samantaray tendered his resignation from both the BJD and the Rajya Sabha, citing feelings of being 'systematically belittled' within the party. Samantaray plans to join the BJP after finalising discussions with its leadership.
His exit creates a vacant parliamentary seat in Odisha. Political insiders report Odisha's Chief Minister and BJP state president are in New Delhi, hinting at Samantaray's imminent BJP induction.
