Ukraine's Defense Boost: Acquisition of Swedish Fighter Jets
Ukraine has signed a significant defense agreement to acquire Swedish Gripen fighter jets. Initially, Sweden will provide up to 20 Gripen E/F aircraft to Kyiv for €2.5 billion, funded through a European loan. Additionally, Sweden plans to donate 16 Gripen C/D jets for Ukraine’s military efforts.
Ukraine has embarked on a significant upgrade of its air defense capabilities with the acquisition of Swedish fighter jets, as per the announcement from President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's office.
The initial phase of this agreement includes up to 20 Gripen E/F aircraft provided by Sweden, financed through a €2.5 billion European loan. This move marks a substantial defense investment for Ukraine as tensions in the region escalate.
In a gesture of solidary and support, Sweden also intends to donate 16 Gripen C/D jets once Ukraine advances with the purchase, further reinforcing Ukraine’s defense position in the face of ongoing challenges.
