Venkataramanappa, a former minister in Karnataka and a prominent Congress leader, has died at the age of 80 in Bengaluru after suffering a heart attack. His family shared that he passed away early Friday morning while receiving care for age-related health issues.
Throughout his extensive political career, Venkataramanappa was elected as a member of the legislative assembly four times and held ministerial positions on two occasions. He was celebrated for his advocacy for marginalized communities in Tumakuru district and was particularly beloved in the Pavagada area for his grassroots approach to politics.
He is survived by his son H V Venkatesh, who currently serves as the MLA for Pavagada, and other family members. In the wake of his passing, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara paid tribute at the hospital, expressing his deep sadness over the loss of a straightforward and dedicated public servant.
Parameshwara recounted Venkataramanappa's commitment to public service and his significant impact on the community as a leader of the oppressed classes. He noted that even after Venkatesh took up the MLA role, Venkataramanappa remained a respected figure in the constituency and a personal friend to him, marking his demise as a significant loss for the Congress party.
