The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) celebrated a strong performance in Punjab's civic elections, claiming victory in over 860 out of 1,977 wards. Punjab's Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann emphasized that voters supported the party's developmental agenda rather than the divisive politics of the opposition.
Nearly two thousand wards were contested across various district municipal bodies, with elections held on May 26. A turnout of 63.94 percent was recorded. Mann stated that the civic results showcased AAP's continued popularity, with the party set to win over 1,000 wards once counting is complete.
Mann criticized opposition parties like BJP, Congress, and Shiromani Akali Dal, asserting they collectively failed to match AAP's success. Despite competitive campaigning from 7,554 candidates, in 80 wards, candidates were unopposed. Mann reiterated his belief that Punjab's voters are aligned with AAP's vision, indicating favorable results for future assembly polls.
Holding a press conference, Mann derided the BJP as the 'ED party,' citing their use of federal agencies against AAP members. He further noted that the populace rejected such tactics, bolstering AAP's position ahead of the 2027 assembly elections.
