Despite challenging weather conditions, the third and concluding phase of panchayat elections in Himachal Pradesh commenced at 7 am on Saturday. More than 1.5 million voters are expected to make their way to polling stations across 1,189 gram panchayats, stepping forward to participate in this vital democratic process.
The unavailability of electronic voting means that ballots continue to be cast via paper, with no affiliation to party symbols, ensuring a focus on local governance. Voting is scheduled to continue until 3 pm. With previous phases recording impressive turnouts, the state expects a strong final stage, especially after a significant number of positions were filled unopposed.
State Election Department officials disclosed that gram panchayat, pradhan, and up-pradhan results will be released on Saturday, while panchayat samiti and zila parishad outcomes will emerge by May 31. To streamline the process, distinctive color-coding for ballot papers is employed, signifying different roles.
In this comprehensive three-phase election, an estimated 50.89 lakh voters are tasked with electing local representatives, including pradhans, up-pradhans, ward members, and members of panchayat samiti and zila parishad. Through these efforts, Himachal Pradesh continues to solidify its commitment to grassroots governance.
