According to K C Venugopal, the Congress party is poised to regain authority in Karnataka in the upcoming 2028 elections with D K Shivakumar at the helm. He made this statement during a Congress Legislative Party meeting where Shivakumar was appointed leader of the legislature party.
The meeting, attended by AICC general secretaries, highlighted Shivakumar's rise as the designated chief minister, indicating a pivotal shift in leadership following Siddaramaiah's resignation. The transition is directed by the guidance of senior leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi. Shivakumar's formal ascension to the chief minister role is set for June 3.
