Peru's Presidential Race: Fujimori's Narrow Lead Before Final Showdown

Right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori is maintaining a slight advantage over leftist counterpart Roberto Sanchez as they approach Peru's presidential runoff. Recent polling data from Ipsos reveals Fujimori leading with 38% of the vote and Sanchez close behind at 35%. The runoff is set for June 7.

Alfredo Torres, the CEO of Ipsos, highlighted the pivotal role of undecided voters, along with those intending to cast blank or invalid ballots. He suggested that the 'lesser evil' voting strategy could determine Peru's next leader for the 2026-2031 term.

Fujimori, daughter of late former President Alberto Fujimori, is vying for the presidency for the fourth time. Sanchez, aligned with ex-President Pedro Castillo, secured his runoff spot with 12% of votes in the first round. Margin of error for these polls ranged from 2.5 to 2.8 percentage points.
