The capital city of India, Delhi, achieved a notable improvement in air quality from January to May 2026, marking the lowest average Air Quality Index (AQI) in eight years, with the exception of 2020, which saw a decrease due to pandemic restrictions. This was revealed by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Sunday.

Data shared by the CAQM indicates Delhi recorded 75 'Good to Moderate' days in terms of air quality during this period, surpassing the figures from previous years: 70 in 2025, and matching 75 in 2024. The average AQI during May 2026 was 157, affirming a positive trend in air quality improvement.
