In a significant blow to her political career, Congress Rajya Sabha candidate Meenakshi Natarajan from Madhya Pradesh expressed her dismay after the Supreme Court dismissed her plea against the rejection of her nomination papers. The court's decision has been termed by Natarajan as a 'setback to democracy and the Constitution of India.' Speaking to media representatives, she emphasized that the issue transcends individual concerns, symbolizing a broader challenge to democratic processes and constitutional authority.

Natarajan levelled serious allegations against the Election Commission, accusing it of bias and inefficiency. She pointed out that the Commission failed to respond to their concerns within 48 hours, exposing what she called a compromised stance. While refraining from making direct comments about the Supreme Court's ruling, she claimed that the Returning Officer's actions during the nomination process had now been publicly scrutinized.

The controversy ignited when Natarajan's nomination was rejected based on her alleged nondisclosure of a pending criminal case. Senior Congress leaders, challenging the decision, approached the Supreme Court seeking redress. However, the court declined the party's plea, stating it would not influence any prospective election petitions at the High Court level. Congress leaders, led by Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, argued against the decision, noting that the charges had not been formally framed against Natarajan. In response to the ruling, Congress members organized a Satyagraha in New Delhi to protest the Election Commission's handling of the matter.
