A pro-Russian opposition alliance in Armenia has requested annulment of the recent parliamentary elections won by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's party. Alleged irregularities were cited, with the ruling party securing 49.8% of the votes. The final results are awaited, amid complaints of pre-vote arrests.

Armenian Election Dispute: Opposition Seeks Annulment of Results

The Armenian opposition has filed an appeal with the country's election commission, demanding a reversal of last Sunday's parliamentary election results. The election was claimed by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's ruling party. This request for annulment was announced by Aram Vardevanyan, a member of Strong Armenia, in the capital, Yerevan.

The opposition, led by Strong Armenia, captured 23.2% of the vote on a pro-business agenda, advocating for continued strong relations with Russia. In contrast, Pashinyan's Civil Contract party, known for its Western engagements, emerged victorious with 49.8% of the vote, surpassing other pro-Russian entities.

The Central Election Commission is set to release the final vote counts by Sunday, after invalidating votes at two military-influenced polling stations. These adjustments negatively impacted Prosperous Armenia's standings. In response, opposition factions cited instances of candidate arrests and vote manipulation attempts, although international observers noted overall voting process integrity.
