Trinamool Congress rebel MP Jagadish Barma Basunia has announced plans to meet Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, seeking recognition for his faction as the 'real TMC' within the House. Basunia stated that their group intends to request a separate seating arrangement, emphasizing their growing numbers. "We are the 'real TMC'", he asserted.
The meeting with Speaker Om Birla is scheduled for June 15. Basunia revealed no recent communication from TMC chairperson Mamata Banerjee, evidencing ongoing tensions within the party. "I have not received any call", he confirmed, underscoring the increasing disconnect.
Following the party's loss in assembly elections, internal discord within TMC has escalated, with a faction of MPs rebelling and seeking recognition as the parliamentary opposition in West Bengal. Reports indicate that 19 MPs, including prominent figures like Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Satabdi Roy, have submitted their intention to Speaker Birla, citing support from 20 MPs.
Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Vardhan Shringla commented on TMC's internal strife, describing the party as "imploding" after electoral setbacks. "Irregularities and misgovernance are pushing members away", he remarked, signaling potential gains for opposing political forces.
