In a heated political exchange, Rajasthan's Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari lashed out at senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot for his comments suggesting that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi would have banned BJP if she were alive today. Kumari, speaking to ANI, accused Indira Gandhi of being a dictator, referencing the Emergency period imposed during her leadership.
Kumari stated, "This reflects the mindset of Congress and its leader Indira Gandhi, who banned every institution during the Emergency—a time no one can forget. She operated as a dictator." The remarks came in response to Gehlot's accusation that BJP is weakening the country, prompting him to imagine a scenario where Gandhi would have banned the party.
Gehlot expressed confidence in Congress's future, predicting a shift in political allegiances. He called for unity within the INDIA alliance and suggested Rahul Gandhi as a formidable leader. Gehlot drew parallels between current political dynamics and past Congress challenges, noting a previous campaign against Indira Gandhi that did not prevent her return to power.
