Hungary will hold municipal elections on Oct. 13, President Janos Ader said in a statement on his website on Friday. Ruling Prime Minister Viktor Orban's nationalist agenda has ruffled feathers around Europe but helped him score seven consecutive landslide election wins since 2010 at the national, municipal and European parliament level - partly because the opposition has been plagued by infighting.

With Orban's Fidesz party firmly leading polls, the municipal vote will be a test for the fragmented opposition to unite forces and rally behind single candidates in Budapest and other cities.
