Argentine President Mauricio Macri said on Twitter on Wednesday that he had spoken with center-left presidential rival Alberto Fernandez, who had expressed willingness to keep markets calm in case of an eventual handover of power.

Macri added that Fernandez, the first-placed candidate in a shock primary election result on Sunday, had agreed to work together to make sure the election process does not affect the economy too much. The president added that their conversation was "good and long," and that they had agreed to keep lines of communication open.
