Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said he has sought time from Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the deteriorating law and order situation in the national capital. "I am very worried about the deteriorating law and order in Delhi. Peace should be restored immediately in Delhi - for this, I have asked Home Minister Amit Shah for an appointment," Kejriwal said.
Protestors torched four public buses and two police vehicles on Sunday as they clashed with police in New Friends' Colony near Jamia Millia Islamia during a demonstration against the amended Citizenship Act, leaving nearly 60 people, including students, policemen and fire fighters injured. Police used batons and teargas shells to disperse the violent mob, but denied firing at them. However, videos of purported police firing, injured students in the university bathroom as well as footage of them bleeding emerged on social media.
Kejriwal on Sunday said any kind of violence is unacceptable and protests should remain peaceful. "No one shud indulge in violence. Any kind of violence is unacceptable. Protests shud remain peaceful (sic)," he tweeted.
Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh urged people to maintain peace and not indulge in any violence. "We appeal to people to not indulge in any violence and raise their voice in a democratic manner. We condemn the violence perpetuated by Delhi police in Jamia. This is the trend followed since Amit Shah became the home minister and it shows the real character of Delhi Police," Singh said.
"The need of the hour is to maintain peace. The matter needs to be investigated," he added. PTI UZM KJ KJ
