Pro-Hindu outfits stage protests against demolition of temples

Pro-Hindu outfits on Friday took out processions and staged demonstrations by squatting on the road here, protesting the demolition of the 150-year-old Angala Parameshwari Amman Temple on the banks of Muthanankulam (lake) in the city, as part of Smart City project by the Corporation.

Hindu Makkal Katchi workers, led by its president Arjun Sampath, raised slogans against the Corporation and demanded that the temple be either rebuilt or alternative land be provided, as the demolition had hurt the sentiments of Hindus.

As the workers squatted on Thadagam Road, police arrested them.

Meanwhile, a group of Hindu Munnani activists also took out a procession in the area, condemning the administration's alleged action in targeting temples.
