Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Matt Murray could start against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday after being diagnosed with a concussion earlier this week.

Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Matt Murray could start against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday after being diagnosed with a concussion earlier this week.

Murray will travel with the team after he was a full participant in practice Friday and took part in an optional morning skate Thursday. He missed Pittsburgh's 4-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday.

"We thought he had a strong practice," Penguins coach Mike Sullivan told reporters. "We'll see how he responds. He's status quo at this point, but we'll make decisions on a day-to-day basis. ... I think the nature of this injury is different, irrespective of the position. It's hard to compare one to the other. They're all different. That's part of the challenge."

Murray's concussion occurred during Monday's practice. It is his second known concussion in nine months and third of his career.

Murray has allowed 11 goals in two games this season. The 24-year-old has a 69-29-8 record and 2.64 goals-against average in 113 career regular-season appearances (107 starts).

"Today was another step in the right direction, getting a full practice in," he said. "Everything is going pretty good."

Casey DeSmith stopped 35 of 37 shots faced in the win against Vegas.
