Floods Ravage Assam and Manipur Despite Falling Water Levels

Despite falling water levels, critical flood conditions persist in Assam and Manipur. Rivers continue to flow above danger levels, posing significant risks. The situation remains dire with numerous districts affected, infrastructure damaged, and fatalities reported due to incessant rainfall in the aftermath of Cyclone Remal.

Flood conditions in Assam and Manipur remain critical despite falling water levels, according to the Central Water Commission. Multiple rivers continue to flow above danger levels, posing significant risks to surrounding areas.

In Manipur, the Barak River at Chotabekra in Imphal East is 2.07 meters above danger level at 28.27 meters. In Assam, the Kushiyara River at Karimganj flows 1.31 meters above its danger level, and the Katakhal River at Matijuri is 0.55 meters above its danger level.

The flood situation has led to fatalities and disrupted infrastructure, including the Haflong-Silchar road, which has been washed away. Train services are also impacted due to landslides caused by heavy rainfall from Cyclone Remal.
