The lander touched down at 6:23 am Beijing time in the South Pole-Aitken Basin, according to the China National Space Administration.
This mission marks the sixth endeavor in China's Chang'e lunar exploration program, with an aim to exceed previous accomplishments by gathering samples from the lesser-explored region.
