The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that the southwest monsoon will make its entry into parts of south Gujarat within the next 48 hours, bringing an end to the intense heatwave that has gripped the region.

The state has faced scorching temperatures for several days, but light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is anticipated in south Gujarat on Monday and Tuesday. Locations such as Tapi district's Dolvan taluka have already recorded an impressive 90mm of rainfall, the highest in the state so far, as per data from the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).

With Ahmedabad receiving light rainfall late Sunday evening, residents enjoyed temporary relief from the sweltering heat, which had reached a peak of 43.1 degree Celsius. Surendranagar district reported the highest temperature at 43.5 degree Celsius. The IMD also noted that widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected across south and north Gujarat and the Saurashtra region until Wednesday morning.
