Haryana and Punjab witnessed a much-needed respite from the scorching heat, as maximum temperatures dropped at several locations across both states on Thursday.

The Meteorological Department reported that parts of these states, along with their shared capital Chandigarh, experienced light rainfall over the past 24 hours ending at 5:30 pm.

Earlier, intense hot weather had gripped the regions, with day temperatures ranging between 43-46 degrees Celsius. However, Chandigarh recorded a lower maximum temperature of 36.8 degrees Celsius on Thursday.

In Haryana, Ambala recorded a high of 36.4°C, Karnal 32.8°C, Mahendragarh 38.2°C, Rohtak 40.1°C, Faridabad 40°C, and Gurugram saw temperatures reaching 39.8°C. Nevertheless, Sirsa remained the hottest at 43.8°C, followed by Hisar at 41.2°C.

Meanwhile, in Punjab, Amritsar recorded a maximum temperature of 36.1°C, Ludhiana 35.7°C, Patiala 36.6°C, Bathinda 33.6°C, and Pathankot registered 39.8°C. Faridkot’s temperatures settled at 36.8°C. Gurdaspur, however, remained the hottest area recording a high of 41°C.
