Tropical storm Beryl becomes hurricane, NHC says

Tropical storm Beryl has become a hurricane, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said on Saturday, adding that the hurricane may intensify quickly.

Beryl is expected to bring destructive winds and a life-threatening storm surge to the Windward Islands, the forecaster said in an advisory.

NHC also added that a hurricane warning is in effect for the island of Barbados.
