Assam Flood Crisis: Heavy Rainfall Worsens Situation

Assam's flood situation has become critical due to heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, with rivers flowing above danger levels. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has received promises of assistance from Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah. The IMD forecasts more rain, affecting over 2,70,628 people in 14 districts.

The flood situation in Assam has reached a critical stage following torrential rains in neighboring Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed on Monday.

Rivers including the Brahmaputra are flowing above danger levels, he stated at a press conference. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall for the next two to three days.

''Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah contacted me and assured full support in managing the crisis,'' Sarma said, adding that the NDRF and Army are on standby. Ministers, MLAs, and officials have been instructed to monitor the situation closely.

Officials reported that 2,70,628 people across 14 districts, including the Brahmaputra and Barak valleys, are severely affected by the floods.
