Union Home Minister Amit Shah has congratulated Indore for setting a Guinness World Record for the most trees planted by a team in 24 hours, stating that 'Mother Earth is smiling at the city.'

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that Indore, already famous as India's cleanest city and MP's economic capital, has achieved the world record by planting more than 11 lakh saplings in a single day. Yadav shared the Guinness World Records certificate and pictures of the event on social media platform X.

Earlier on Sunday, Amit Shah participated in the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign and also planted a sapling in Indore.

'Congratulations, Indore! The city has set a surreal world record by planting 12 lakh saplings in a day under PM Shri @narendramodi Ji's campaign 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,' setting an example that will be followed by millions in the years to come,' Shah posted on X late Sunday night.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign on June 5 to mark World Environment Day, aiming to plant approximately 140 crore trees across India, including 5.5 crore in Madhya Pradesh, which Shah termed the 'lungs of Bharat.' Indore alone will see 51 lakh saplings planted during this campaign, according to officials.

The plantation drive took place at the BSF Academy's Revati Range, divided into nine zones and 100 sub-zones. Participants included 2,000 BSF jawans, over 100 NRIs, NCC cadets from 50 schools, and many citizens and social organisations, officials said.

The previous record for the most saplings planted in 24 hours was set by Assam's Forest Department on September 13-14, 2023, with 9,21,730 saplings.
